Having been an early adopter of SAP Joule and Agentic AI across Fortune 500 organizations, I want to share what is actually happening on the ground - beyond the marketing headlines.
What is Agentic AI in an ERP context? Unlike traditional AI that responds to queries, Agentic AI acts autonomously - initiating actions, making decisions, and orchestrating complex workflows without human intervention. Within SAP S/4HANA environments, this is transforming operations in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago.
What I'm seeing in practice:
Autonomous Incident Management - AI agents performing root cause analysis and initiating remediation in real time, dramatically reducing P1/P2 resolution windows
Predictive Operations - Moving from reactive SLA management to AI-driven early warning systems that prevent outages before they happen
Intelligent Process Automation - SAP Joule orchestrating end-to-end business processes across finance, procurement, and supply chain with minimal human touch points
AI-Ready Architecture - Designing SAP BTP and multi-cloud landscapes on AWS, Azure, and GCP that natively support AI workloads at enterprise scale
The architectural imperative: Organizations that treat AI as a layer on top of existing architecture will struggle. The winners are those embedding AI as a core architectural principle from the ground up - using frameworks like SAP LeanIX to map AI-readiness across the entire enterprise landscape.
