Spurring from flush wall socket.

Carrying on from my other post regards type of conduit to use.

I’ve got a job to install an outside socket for a client, where I need to spur off from a living in groom socket, run mini conduit from socket on adjacent wall to wall where outside socket is being fitted.  But the socket I’m spurring off is a metal back box in the wall.  So what is the best way to bring the spurred cable from this socket in to the mini trunking, without causing too much damage to the wall?

  • is the route for the mini-trunking going to be directly below the existing socket ?

loosen existing socket,  and note if wires arrive from above or below (or as this is a party wall, wires should not go may go next door, or at least that is less likely but not unknown.)

Have a vertical drop of the mini-trunking from beside the socket, on the side where your screws will not hit the existing cable drill beside the existing box, and go in via an un-used knock out.

Depending on your skills either mitre the join of vertical to horizontal trunking, or cut  the outside edge of the vertical trunking and the cover long so as to conceal the raggy join to the horizontal section.

Suggest to householder that when they re-decorate, the cable can be buried in the plaster. Is there going to be a fused spur near where  it goes outside if so you need to call in there too.
