Long delay after resetting a MCB ?

Is anyone aware of a reason why, after tripping due to a fault (some hours previously), a reset MCB would delay the re-connection of power for 3 - 4 hours. On subsequent checks the MCB appears to work correctly and the operating lever etc seems normal.

    The mechanism inside the MCB operates independently of the lever, if you lock the lever in the on position the MCB can still trip.


    It may be that the lever did not reset the MCB, but when it was checked it was turned off and back on again it did.
