"I am a domestic appliance repairer of 38 years experience. I keep trying to point out that these fires are NOT caused by fluff. All dryers of every make get fluff on the heater but it doesn't burn. It only singes a bit. I actually had a Hotpoint dryer in my workshop that caught fire in front of me while the lid and side panel was off. I had just vacuumed it all out after fitting a new belt and it was spotless. The motor burst into flames, that is what is wrong here. The mains filter capacitors are also inadequate. Fluff won't cause a fire because a fluff build up triggers the thermal cutout, switching the heater off. Those dryers seen in photos burnt out and melted had fires in their motors. The papers won't listen and BBC Watchdog won't listen. Worst of all, Whirlpool won't listen. For a dryer maker to blame fluff is utterly ludicrous."
The Grenfell Tower fire may also have been caused by a faulty appliance capacitor. It was shown clearly in the photos after the fire caused by the tall appliance. Autopsy pictures also showed the components used in that make and model of appliance.
