Another question:

Not sure about this sentence below from the JIB, it does not make complete sense taken by itself. Is a gold card lesser value than a Reg Electrician.

Electricians who signed up as Registered Electricians with the 17th Edition must upgrade to  the 18th Edition by 1st July 2019 or revert to their standard gold card

Well apart from maybe the lights I suppose if anything the breakers would be undersized, so safe, though a ten minute shower and any cooking would perhaps be disappointing.  It is more or less what you get on the continent of course, where lights and power and everything else is all on 16A radials. I'd argue that making the 'how to'  the domain of an exclusive club does not stop this any more than it stops someone plumbing in a gas fire in garden hosepipe -the solution is to educate so people to recognise what a good job should look like, so they comment and ask when they thing  something is not right - you won't discourage  the have a go hopeless cases directly, but maybe you can educate their family to know when something is up, and as a bonus we may get more knowledgable customers not asking the impossible.
