Stage Lights.

Are these blue stage lights L.E.Ds?

  • Possibly, but to me they look more like HID lamps. The colour changing being obtained by subtractive colour mixing in which graduated yellow, magenta, and cyan filters are placed between the light source and the rest of the optical system. As a result virtually any colour may be obtained.
  • Given the video was released in 2004 I'd be very surprised if they were LED.

I agree with the proposal Broadgage suggests.
  • As that clip was filmed in 2004, I think it unlikely they are LED sources.

They look like one of the older Vari-Lite fixtures to me - likely to be an HID lamp with CMY mixing as mentioned above.

  • LEDS have several problems for this kind of lighting. They often have lamps of 575W or 1.2kW and the source size is very important. The efficiency of HMI (HID) lamps is about 100lm/W so similar to LEDS but the source size is only a few mm, which is necessary to design the complex optical arrangements efficiently, for example to give a tiny beam diameter.
