Advance Notice Of IET Website Login Downtime, 24-29 July 2019

Posted by
Lisa Miles on Jul 10, 2019 4:39 PM Europe/London

We're updating our systems at the IET!

A quick heads up for our community members to let you know that between 17:30 BST Wednesday 24th of July and 09:00 BST Monday 29th July the log in service will be unavailable for the IET websites which also includes this online community. The official notice is below but just to clarify that you'll still be able to access some areas of the online community that do not require you to log in such as reading the forum (but not posting) and viewing event details etc.

Know Your Customer (KYC) is the IET’s technology-enabled business process improvement programme to replace our customer relationship management and sales order processing systems so that we can deliver an improved customer-centric experience for our members, volunteers and customers in future.

To enable us to make these changes, our main IT business systems will be temporarily suspended between Wednesday, 24 July 2019 at 5.30pm BST and Monday, 29 July 2019, 9.00am BST.

You will be unable to log onto many of our websites during this time or place sales orders and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The main websites to be impacted include the main IET website: www.theiet.org login (the website itself will continue to be available), Career Manager, Engineering Communities, Faraday websites, Faraday Centre Members’ Booking in System, IET Digital Library, IET Academy, IET.tv, Inspec Direct, MyIET, RPS and the Virtual Library.

You can continue to contact us by phone and email as usual during normal office hours. During the weekend of the maintenance work, there will also be a Helpline available for any urgent queries. The Helpline number will be promoted wherever possible on our websites prior to the planned downtime.

You may also like to take this opportunity to migrate your log in details (if you haven't already done so) before the log in service becomes unavailable!

Any questions, post them as a comment below.

  • I migrated my account a couple of weeks ago, but I cannot find a "remember me" facility.  So I have to sign in every day.  Is that a feature of the new system?

Yesterday, I had to do some form of migration, which I thought I had done previously, but given that the site remembered me today, the answer to David's question must be, "no".

  • Well, it doesn't work for me.  I am using this site on the old sign-in and it stays signed in whatever.  On other sites that I use I have used the new system and every time I switch off my computer, I have to sign in again.  I can close the browser and It stays in until I switch of the computer, and then I am signed out..

Hi David hopefully 5 days shut down will be enough time to sort out all the known bugs, issues and polite requests, I am hoping there might be an ohm symbol in the special character menu currently denote by an ohm symbol in the message composing menu.

    :)

Interestingly I have two computers I use to access this site. On the work computer I am signed in permanently, while on my own computer I have to sign in each time, even though I switch off my work computer every day.

  • Just to manage some expectations here, it is the IET's main log in service that will be unavailable as my colleagues in the IT team are making some changes to the IET's main member and customer database.

We're not making any updates to the online community during this time as we (the online community team) receive regular platform updates from our supplier every two weeks anyway.

So again just to clarify, the IET's main log in service will be out of action from Wednesday 24th July at 17:30 until Monday  29th July at 09:00 which means that you will not be able to log into the IET's family of websites, which also includes the online community as we use the IET's log in service for our 'single sign on' protocol.

Any further questions please feel free to ask!

  • Lisa,

Does that mean that if I don't have to log in now (i.e. re-log in every time) I shall still be able to post in here unless the system or my 'puter spits me out?

5 days without this forum - what shall we all do? ?
  • I have a more pressing issue,

Our Panasonic TV cannot load the BBC Iplayer and it seems the required update won’t be available for another month until the 28th August.

Next year I presume the BBC will try and sell me a Britbox subscription, when I cannot access one of their services I am already paying for.

Oh! The joys of modern life and technology that doesn’t actually do what it’s supposed to do.

    Hi Chris

As far as I'm aware you'll get 'spat out' at 17:30 on Wednesday but will be able to log back in on Monday morning  (29th) at 09:00 ?

Unfortunately this also affects myself and my colleague Lizzie as we'll not be able to log into the forum either...  We'll just have to find some other mischief to occupy ourselves with for a couple of days.... ?

  • It's 17:33 and I just sneaked in! ?
