MICC cable and earth tag

Good morning

Have you ever seen/used an earth tag ('banjo') used with a MICC cable gland fitted into a painted enclosure (no paint removal) - similar to the SWA approach ?

Thank you

  • It is a few years since I used M.I.C.C. cable. When I was working for contacting firms we did not use banjos with M.I.C.C. We would scrape the paint away inside any metal accessory enclosure if it was painted, like a metalclad type socket. We would ensure a good tight termination fit using spanners. Normally we would use a galvanised 20mm conduit coupling up to the metal box. The M.I.C.C. gland would be fitted into the 20mm conduit coupling, the coupling then would be held in place by a 20mm male brass bush. Some firms insisted on having an internal C.P.C. within the M.I.C.C. cable as well as using the outer copper covering. We would terminate this into the earth terminal of any metal boxes. It was assumed that termination to galvanised boxes provided good earthing via the mechanical connection to the box. Some people use star washers to bite through the paint.
