How to wire a 1970's plug...

Just seen this and thought I'd share with you...


As part of the IET's 'Exploring the Archives' feature, my colleague Asha Gage‍ from the Archives Team gives us a quick look at an unusual item in the IET Archives. A tea towel from the 1970's made to help the public to understand the changes in wiring. ?

    I tend to do the same. It is not just wire and cable manufacturers. Anyone who does defence related work will use the same abbreviated form as that is what the military do, so people working for BAE, Babcock, Qinetiq, BMT (in fact the majority of engineering consultancies) or any other big defence contractor. We tend to forget others may not know the short form. If you look through the posts on this forum you will see the posters doing the same with abbreviations and acronyms in their own field, which anyone from outside coming in may not understand (e.g. PEC, SPD, etc. - I mention these as these are ones I know but also know are specific to the field) 

    I try to give a bit of thought to who might be reading the post and expand if possible, but I often forget.
