unbranded fake wagos

Hi has anybody noticed the amount of these unbranded fake wago connectors  that are entering the market ?  I think its a bit alarming ..any thoughts or opinions ?
  • I'm not sure what you mean by "fake" - are they pretending to be something they're not? If they're unbranded (or non-Wago branded) they're presumably not pretending to be real Wagos - just some other brand of screwless connector. So long as they comply with the appropriate standards I don't see a particular problem.

  • What standard are they supposed to comply with? I am not sure that WAGO make any claim that their connectors comply with any particular standard so it is a bit difficult to compare. However I agree with Andy that if they are unbranded (not claiming to be WAGO) then as long as they do the same job, is there a problem?

  • Among others  HUPU and AIMENGTE  make "not quite wago"  connectors.   can you tell the difference, quickly.  ?

The issue is that some of the clone makers have poor quality control, while others are actually very good, and include additions to the range that are actually  more useful than the original -

in-line 3 core connector anyone. Not sure why Wago do not do one, but they do not. Part of the problem is that  Ebay can be a place for some rip off merchants to hide amongst the honest traders.

  • Wago actually claim quite a few third party approvals, for example 221 range...

The Maintenance Free approval for the junction boxes also obviously requires the use of the correct connector(s) within it.

Indeed, I have found unbranded connectors (in themselves not a problem) being sold with the keyword 'wago 221' on ebay (that IS a problem).

In the case of the listing I found, the actual photos gave away that there was no black text on the orange levers... but how many people get caught out?

  • I only buy Wago, Ideal and Hellermann Tyton push fit terminals through wholesalers for mains voltage work, so don’t expect any issues with those I fit myself.

However I have run into issues trying to buy genuine Scotchlok extra low voltage IDC connectors and the jelly crimps I have are unbranded, but I cannot see that is really an issue when repairing door entry controls and telephone lines.
