  • My old Mam is constantly bombarded by these people in every guise from funeral planners to fraud teams at the bank. I've eventually got her to understand that if she isn't expecting the call or doesn't know them then she needs to simply put the phone down

I have had problems as most probably have, including Asian callers now with London telephone numbers - 0128..... etc. I got this unit from True Call Serve; I'm still working on it, when I have the time. It's for family and friends only, who pass through as normal, other callers need to enter another 1 digit number but I'm trying to change the standard message for a caller not on the list of family and friends, to make it more businesslike. It needs caller display though  At present it's a free service, OK for landlines. Most cold calls I understand, start from an automatic call system that sweeps a list of numbers: the first that picks it up is connected, the rest hang in mid air - a silent call which can also be alarming.
