  • Some years ago I stopped in a queue at the traffic lights on the dual carriageway in Worcester City centre and a young girl slid past me sideways in the other lane and hit a steel lamp post resulting in it bending and causing arcing from the controls in its base.

I phoned the emergency operator and said send everyone, fire, police, ambulance and Central Networks who was the DNO before WPD.

I also phoned Central Networks direct as I had their emergency number on my phone, they were actually the first to arrive as a result of the phone calls, literally getting there in minutes. If the DNO had received a phone call to a problem like this on private land I suspect they may have said that the person in charge needed to get an electrician to attend. The DNOs can be good, but do draw lines on responsibility.
