Boddingtons!

I don't mean the awful beer!

Boddies VDE screwdrivers etc - has anyone tried them? And how did they fare? Just had a set arrive today but have yet to try them out.
  • Top class tools. I have some of their screwdrivers, hex drivers, insulated spanners and an insulated socket set. I have their 1000V insulated dentist mirror which is ideal for inspecting below circuit breakers to see if the bus bar tongue has gone behind the cage clamp or is inside the cage clamp, also good for inspecting behind things inside panel boards and other obstructed places. Showed in to my dentist who thought it was funny.

Not only that but British made by Essex boys and girls! So what is there not to like?

Their sales when attempting to buy some kit at Elex John. Good display stand albeit mostly at low level (so not easy bend down and look at my age).

On asking for a price, the guy had to fetch his "pad" and take time to look it up, during which, he entered into a conversation with his colleague and left me waiting so I walked off without a purchase.

It would have been better to have priced the items so people could see and if there was a show deal, to poster it with 20% off or whatever, like the majority of stands there.

Unless they thought it better to have a punter express an interest before (eventually) revealing the price?

I wanted to buy some large parrot beak cutters and like you, a mirror.

    Regards

    Naturally! ?

Sorry, John, I couldn't resist. But it has reminded me to nip into the loft and get a laryngeal mirror (a little larger and on a longer handle than a dentist's one) so that I can peer into a void on site tomorrow and, hopefully, get an idea where a cable goes.

Stick a bit of heat shrink on the handle of your medical tool and you have a very useful electrical tool.

I will feed back your bad experience to the Boddigton team when. I see them at the Sandown Park Elex show next month.
  • https://protzonbeer.co.uk/news/2012/06/25/will-boddingtons-get-the-bullet  I have seen Roger at the Railway Station sometimes, perhaps I'll mention it , if I see him again ?
  • Anyone else had problems with POZI no 1 tips breaking? It seems to be confined to chemically blacked VDE ones. The standard chrome mechanics ones seem stronger.

So far, I've had 2 x Armeg ones go, 2 x Wiha slimtips go, 1 x CK and 1 x Irazola one fail.

Am hoping that the Boddies ones fare much better, although I have to say that the Armeg No2 POZI is excellent so far.

I also have a set of Wera lasertips which I have used occasionally,  and a set of PB Swiss ones, but I keep those for special jobs. At fifty quid a set, they are not for house-bashing applications.

I have been reading reviews on the web about torque screwdrivers and it seems that the interchangeable blades on these contrivences fail with monotonous regularity, which has put me off buying one at all.
  • No broken tips, but they wear with monotonous regularity.

    I swear by Facom tools.

  • Had a set of early FACOM VDE ones from the late 1980's - all red in colour. they lasted quite well. The newer ones don't seem as robust.
