Fuse Protection of Power Transformers

What do others think of protecting small to medium power transformers with fuses? Has this ever in Europe?

    There are fuse for just about every application - and often have superior performance to circuit breakers.

    What is the cutoff point today? What was it in the past? I'll agree superior, but to many seem to freak out by them lol.
