Shower priority control, for 2 out of 3.

Does anyone make a shower priority control for THREE showers, that permits of any TWO showers being used at the same time, but NOT all three.

3 phase 100 amp supply. Showers each 40 amps.

L1-----------3 showers, showers one and two to take priority, shower three disabled if BOTH the others are in use, but permitted if only one other is in use.

L2------------as L1

L3-----------2 showers, either or both can be used, but if both are in use, the output intended for the third shower is turned off, this to supply immersion heaters.

I appreciate that one would probably "get away" with 3 showers each of 40 amps, on a 100 amp supply, but in this case with significant other load I am a bit uneasy about two showers, three no way!  This is an existing installation with a history of operating the cut out fuses.

The water supply is confirmed as ample, boosted supply from a large cistern.
  • Sounds like you want a full 3 way Non-Priority setup : no one has priority, 1st come 1st served

Have you considered a 2 way non-Priority board, and a main always available (i.e. a priority)

That way, you still get the 2 out of 3, just not the 2 lower priority units at the same time.

Else maybe speak to Garo or similar, to see if they will build you one.

Gotcha is the need for 2 pole Priority relays - and not seen those in a quick google.

(so 3 times each of Switched outputs put in series of the other 2 Showers' disabling contactor)

i.e. you need to votes of cutoff to actually cutoff,

OK, you can apply similar logic and have two disabling contactors in parallel ... but that means 6 not 3 of those.

  • They are horrible things, I stayed in a BB once with one between two showers. It was quite common to get a cold shower half way thorough as someone had  forgotten about the priority switch. Get a hot water cylinder fitted ?
  • Which is why a non-priority version is preferred...

The 'Priority' cannot steal the supply - whoever has it, keeps it... till they finish.

(Thermostat on/off allowing - so setting the time delay before release can be key)

  • In this case, a priority unit would be preferred. Showers one and two for guests in a small hotel. Shower three for owner or staff. Paying customers wont ever have to wait, just use the shower as normal. Shower three can not be used if showers one AND two are in use, but can be used if only ONE of the first two are in use.

I agree that a hot water tank might be a better solution and have suggested this.
  • In the absence of a water tank being accepted as a solution,

then one (guest) shower permanently connected

and one (guest) shower as Priority (pre-emption) over the Owners Unit using the generally available 2 unit Priority unit might be the solution ?
