John Peckham:

You might want a campaign of turning off all those tiny insignificant loads when not in use such as phone chargers, electronic equipment left on standby etc as all the small loads add up. I assume you are now all LED lighting including outside lighting?

perspicacious:

That must be a hungry "router" you've got there Chris! ~ 370 W so equates to 3250 kWh annually.................

mapj1:

I'd expect the all-off consumption of a house with a few USB sockets and wall-wart plug in's to be more like 0.1 A, not 1.6,  the sort of PSU that fits in the body of  a plug is only 10W or so on load,. and a lot less if the load is removed from the other end. You may have half a dozen, you will not have 40 !

If it is all in one place then 1.6A should be is quite negotiable, as nearly 400W - heated towel rail ?.

I'd be tempted to start flicking breakers or pulling fuses to identify the circuit in question. And do not rule out that you may be supplying next door's lights as well if it is an old style  terrace with shared loft.

So whilst Mrs P was out today, I clamped my trusty Megger clamp meter round the line tail and turned everything off.

0.00 A - that's a good start.

Various lighting circuits added - nothing odd. A few PIRs shouldn't be drawing much.

Kitchen sockets - about 0.5 A - that'll be a fridge and a freezer. Can't do much about that.

Other sockets - a few things on standby which could be turned off properly.

Office sockets - another 0.5 A or so. FI required. Clearly the phone base-station needs to be on permanently and the router needs to be on whenever the house is occupied, but the rest could be turned off most of the time. There are no USB sockets. ?

I think that it will be useful to take further measurements, but all those things on standby (could be 40 of them!) may have been accounting for 25% of our usage. ?

    No, just a diagnosis. ??

In my case, having been brought up in Yorkshire, I cannot bear spending a penny when a ha'penny will do, but all forms of treatment have failed. More seriously, I think that we all have a duty to minimize waste of resources.
