Coal Fired Generation Emissions etc.

In the U.K. many coal fired power stations have been demolished to reduced emissions. We are worried about carbon and man made "climate change" But what about the greenhouse gas mentioned in the article below?

  • SF6 is an interesting one. It's given a high GWP because it is extremely stable and so persists for a long time. SF6 insulated switchgear etc. is much smaller than conventional air or oil insulated units and attempts have been made to carry out whole life analysis to see how much is saved by the reduced use of materials compared to the impact of the SF6. There are some substitutes for SF6 being developed but none have been completely successful.
