Basic insulation exposed

Having a debate about these fittings, they are 24v DC with a 2v control pair. they appear to have their basic insulation exposed Clearly I could enclose the terminals but it would be difficult to enclose the cables as they exit the fitting that way.

I could sleeve the cables but then who certifies this as sufficient?

Thoughts?

  • Provided the system is SELV or PELV, then damage to the basic insulation shouldn't be a shock hazard. (Personally I still think 521.10.1 is misplaced.)

The leads will be covered by the equipment standard rather than BS 7671 - so provided the equipment standard doesn't object I don't see a problem connecting them to a BS 7671 installation. (Equipment standards oftens differ from BS 767 principles - just think of a BC lampholder).

The connection to the terminals would be covered by BS 7671, so I would ensure they're suitably enclosed.
