Fo a lot of years my other half (S W M B O) understood we were roughly similar distantish from Cornwall/Devon to London but could not quite get it why Devon/Cornwall were not "next Doorish" to London.
Bit like I was having a friendly haggle with a pal over something. I offered £100 he wanted £200, he offered split the difference and I said OK I agree then £30 it is! What! he said. Well I ponted out that the difference was £100 and a split was not nessacarily £50/£50 it could equally well be £30/£70 therefore £30 was my opition. Naturally we acually settled on £150 and we were both happy. But it was fun
