Tails size

Hello hope everyone has managed to keep safe this far.

I need to install a TPN isolator from the cutout so if needed for future maintenance we can isolate panel board.

My question is what size tails would I need the isolator will be within 2m of the panel board looking at table 4D1A column 9 looks about right which leads to 70mm cable how easy are these to handle and terminate also are there any alternative suggestions?

This will be my first time playing with tails this size ?

The DNOs will not accept tri-rated tails if presented with them. 19 strand singles,either in trunking or insulated and sheathed singles, would be the usual.

Some wholesalers high out crimping tools or hire companies. My indent crimpers will crimp 95s or you might go for a hydraulic crimper with the correct dies.

Those hydraulic crimpers sound perfect for someone who does not have very strong hands but sound very £££

John correct me if I'm wrong here but I always assumed that the DNO was responsible for the installation upto the metering and from there the owner is responsible. Based on that if we installed Tri rated cables what's it got to do with the DNO?

That will be for whole current metering. This job will be CT metering. You may need to provide a CT chamber or if you are lucky the DNO will provide the CT chamber or they may use one of the fancy new Schneider heads with the CTs built in. Sort out what the DNO want before you start the job.

The site has an existing TP&N supply, since the client no longer wants the flexibility of the 200A supply the 100A existing should be fine to bring back into service, I'm pretty sure that all the metering is in place. You make some good points that I didn't consider such as the CT meter chamber etc, I'm on a steep learning curve, you only start really learning once you're out there doing the work ? has I say all the college stuff provides a foundation to work from.
