Part P - consumer units

Replacing an existing consumer unit is notifiable to the LABC under Part P of the Building Regulations.

Are any of the following activities notifiable:

1. Installing an accessory (such as a DIN rail mounted time switch, relay, or kWh meter) on an existing circuit.

2. Moving a circuit from an MCB + RCD to an RCBO, or vice versa.

3. Installing a DIN rail mounted PSU or transformer - does this class as an extra circuit even if it is connected to an MCB used with an existing circuit.

    No. As in the other thread, it is nothing to do with Part P but Regulation 12.

    Are any of the preceding activities (in England):

    (a) the installation of a new circuit;

    (b) the replacement of a consumer unit; or

    (c) any addition or alteration to existing circuits in a special location.

    Note The Building Regulations special location is different than The Wiring Regulations special location.

    If the wording is unclear it is up to you to decide. Anyone you ask might not be correct.

    You can look for obscure ways in which something might be notifiable or obscure ways in which something might not be notifiable.

    To do the former is a bit silly as the authors were not that bothered.
