Evacuation Alert System

Just had a read through an article in the NICEIC Connections magazine relating to evacuation alert systems. I could see such systems filling the void between  the issues raised on stay put strategy and the omission of a central fire alarm system in buildings with flats and therefore becoming attractive to those specifying or recommending  fire protection measures in such places. The relevant standard is BS8629 2019 which doesn’t restrict itself to high rise buildings.

I imagine that these systems will become part of the standard repertoire for electricians undertaking work in buildings with flats.

  • As I understand it, these systems do not advocate voice alarm given the number of languages spoken by Grenfell residents. Twenty I think!
