Light bulb safety

Hi all


Asking for a friend who needs to change a light bulb in their new home.


The current light bulb in the ceiling pendant is a 40w (28w halogen) bulb but they find it too dim.

Can they safely swap that out for a 60w (42w halogen)?


There's no rating stickers or information of any on the light fitting itself so they don't want to put in a higher rated bulb if it may overheat and cause a fire.

    Unless they're software engineers - then the answer is none. (fixing lighting is a hardware issue).

    How many zen masters does it take to change a lightbulb? The bulb is part of the universe so is the zen master therefor the zen master is the lightbulb!!  How many physychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb? Only one but the bulbs got to want to change. Oh dear time for my medication!!!!!

    have a look at 701.559.3. Neither lamp or bulb is defined in this standard although the term “luminaire” refers only to “lamps”. Still, the message is clear, which I assume is the key point.

    I have been using a lot of 12W Led lamps from CPC, they are so much better in all ways than halogen, and seem at least as bright as a 100W tungsten. They are still doing internet ordering and seem to be the cheapest Wholesale source. The Pro-elec make seem reliable and effective and quite cheap. Code LP11038. Not advertising just a good product. Around a quid, so cheaper than the few remaining tungsten types!

    Also, the Pro-Elec M.C.B.s seem to come out of the same factory as Niglon.
