Cable table which column to use

Hi

Im currently doing a bit of circuit design and am a bit rusty. I’m planning to use a 3 core swa for a single phase circuit. Do I choose the 2core cable single phase column in The regs book current capacity tables even though im using a three core cable or the three or four core cable column? Some of the tables show a little asterix denoting ‘with or without a protective conductor’ which would help in my instance, however table 4d4a doesn’t show this.

Thanks in advance

  • I wonder what it means by the cable is “generally” manufactured to BS5476 Table 8?

The words look to have been carefully written - it's not claiming compliance with BS 5467, just it's "table 8". Not having access to that standard I don't know what table 8 says, but some other data sheets seem to imply it's specific to 3-core cables. I might hazard a guess it's only talking about the cores, rather than the armour.

btw excuse the shouty looking text. I've pasted below but not sure how to format it?

yes, that does seem to challenge the new Forum's insistence that we can't control the formatting of text doesn' it? They removed all the text formatting buttons, but still respect the formatting in pasted text, Doh!

My work-around is to paste text like that into something that doesn't handle anything but plain text (e.g. Notepad on windows) then re-copy it from there before pasting into the Forum - you then get plain ASCII text with all the formatting stripped off.
