Cooker/hob flex

This is a question about connecting flexes to hobs/cooker that don’t come with them.


what do people use for extra secure to their given terminals as I feel just twisting together and putting in there terminals doesn’t feel sufficient enough . Now I’ve tried some ring crimps but I’ve found the size of the insulated plastic makes it hard to actually sit with having very limited spaces

  • Or if you are any good with rope craft, and date from an era when pipe smoke was common..  Split the strands into three groups, the first two equal, and containing most of the strands for example with a 7 strand cable, 3 each side and one left over , with 19 strand, two eights and a 3.. Form the two equal bunches into two tight twists and then form into a fork to go under the head of the bolt. Use the left over strand or few strands as a 'frap' of a few turns around the split of the fork, to prevent the fork opening. If there is room in the enclosure to do so safely,  a similar frap at the distal ends will hold the wire into an eye, or even just twisting the ends together.

    I'm inclined to agree with the above - the makers tend to assume a flex size much closer to the limit than a lot of electricians are happy with.
