Notifiable or Minor Works

I just need a bit of clarification, as I’ve had mind blank?

If I install some outside lights, but can’t feed them from the original lighting circuit, but just add another cable to current 6a MCB, is this still classed as a ‘new’ circuit or an ‘addition’ to the current circuit and therefore covered by the minor works certificate?
  • It's an addition - see the definition of "circuit" (page 26). Basically, one MCB = one circuit.

Thanks Chris, that’s what i thought, but had a little niggle in the back of my head saying otherwise.
  • The type of certificate has nothing to do with being notifiable or not.
  • Well if you are putting it on the same breaker therefore the same circuit purely in order to avoid notification then a bit nawty, if you were putting it on the same circuit for other genuine reasons then ok. All in all it does highlight some daftness in the way Part P works
