Fused Main Switch and Earth

Hi
My meter tails have a 2 pole 80A HRC fused switch which feeds the CU.
The earth from the MET is also connected to the switch, I have seen a few others were the earth bypasses the switch and go’s straight to the CU. Does this cause a problem?
Also the property is a TN-S and all the main bonding (Gas and water) are connected to the CU as there is only one terminal at the MET?

  • Depends on the method of shock protection used by the switchfuse - if it's Class I it should certainly be earthed (as a general rule, if it's got a metallic enclosure it's likely to be Class I, although there are exceptions), if it's Class II (double or reinforced insulation) - as would often be the situation with plastic cased devices - then it's usually safe without an Earth.
