Using like-new items?

What do you think about using used / like-new items (such as CBs), available on sites such as this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/749714058480262/permalink/3026955394089439/

I don't use them myself, just wondering how advisable it is.

  • This is interesting and entertaining stuff but to bring us back on topic - (yawn) . . .

In the dim distant past I have found electrical contractors reluctant to fit wiring accessories supplied by the customer, unless literally still in wrapper. I suggest that the reason is that a decent contractor will wish to offer some guarantee on their work. They cannot pass on a guarantee on second-hand goods, particularly if not supplied by themselves.

I know of cases of people buying wiring accessories then asking an electrician to fit, because they like that particular style of accessory. My advice would be to specify the make and model of accessory and ask the contractor to procure it for them. The subterfuge is that the contractor can probably buy more cheaply at trade rates, but in practice it makes things a whole lot easier for the contractor to guarantee good long-term outcome.
