B.S. 951 Bonding Clamp.

Good morning,

I have often wondered at just what is the purpose of the locking nut on the main fixing screw on a B.S. 951 bonding clamp. On static non vibrating pipes I can hardly imagine the screw becoming loose. So, is the locking nut superfluous? Or is it perhaps to allow correct orientation of the razor blade sharp warning label?

  • I take the label off and put the bolt through it.

Then tighten the bolt down and then use the nut to tighten down onto the label with the label over the top of the connection.

This means for someone to take the connection off they have to deliberately move the label out of the way, and they are more likely to notice it.

I take the view that the label is there really to inform non electrical personnel what the earth cable is for, as any electrical operative would know already.
