Terminal strips choc blocks

Are these blocks classed as IP2X?
  • Not if you cut the insulation too close to the brass terminal tube when you separate a longer strip (as I've seen numerous times).
  • So it’s a bit of a dodgey one. That explains why most the time they are taped up ?.
  • To be fair, if it meets BS EN 60998-series, and you separate the "choc-block" properly, then it should meet IP 2X or IPXXB. Of course, it will usually need a suitable enclosure to be fully compliant with BS 7671 for normal use.

Does that include the space under the floorboards when you poke one up through the hole in the ceiling?

  • Chris Pearson‍ you know the answer to that ...

    ?
  • I am reliably informed that choc blocks can be made IP68 with a couple of turns of insulation tape.....
  • Sounds about right.
