AMD 2 - more BS to buy?

A new regulation seems to have been slipped into AMD 2
514.9.2 All diagrams, charts, and information or instruction notices shall comply with BSEN 61082-1, BS EN 82079-1, and, where appropriate, BS EN 81346-1.

All warning notices and other relevant safety signs shall comply with BS ISO 3864, BS EN ISO 7010, and BS EN 82079-1.

I don't think I've heard of any of them before, but it sounds like they might impact on my usual 'Dymo'-style labels.. Has anybody got any idea what's involved with complying with those (other than buying pre-printed labels that claim to comply - but that's not always practical).

So far I've only been able work out the titles and costs of those standards:
  • BS EN 61082-1 "Preparation of documents used in electrotechnology. Rules" - £292.00 (BSI Member Price £146.00)

  • BS EN 82079-1 "Preparation of instructions for use. Structuring, content and presentation. General principles and detailed requirements" - £254.00 (BSI Member Price £127.00)

  • BS EN 81346-1 "Industrial systems, installations and equipment and industrial product. Structuring principles and reference designations. Basic rules" - £274.00 (BSI Member Price £137.00)

  • BS ISO 3864 "Graphical symbols. Safety colours and safety signs. Design principles for safety signs and safety markings" - £182.00 (BSI Member Price £91.00)

  • BS EN ISO 7010 " Graphical symbols. Safety colours and safety signs. Registered safety signs" - £428.00 (BSI Member Price £214.00)

and there was I thinking that BS 7671 itself was expensive....

  • If you were providing safety signs already, the standards were in place. Generally, you will purchase safety signs and many labels - so really that's for the manufacturer to check.

So, that really accounts for BS ISO 3864-series, ISO 7010, and to a certain extent BS EN IEC/IEEE 92079.

However, you don't actually need to buy ISO 7010 (or ISO 7000, and IEC 60417 for general symbols for use in instructions and on products), you can browse the database of symbols here, if you are in any doubt. https://www.iso.org/obp/ui#home

I believe the copyright (e.g use of the symbols for custom labels) is that they can be used in furtherance of complying with the relevant standards, but best to check ...

There is guidance on custom labels in Appendix 11 of the DPC, which should assist with BS EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1 for labels, and in purchasing and using labelling products (which should already comply with the relevant standards).

BS EN 61082-1, BS EN 81346-1 and BS EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1 are already effectively harmonized, and should have been used all along ... for a number of years.

BUT ... more expensive than all these is IEC 60617 ... but that's been in BS 7671 for a long time, and I'm not aware of many, if any, organizations actually subscribing to the database.

So, overall I guess many organisations will not purchase these standards.
