Stuffing gland and swa

Is it okay to use stuffing gland with swa as long as as the armour is earthed at the supply end?

  • It all rather depends what you are doing with the armour and the CPC for the circuit - in extremis you could have 2 stuffing glands on at each end  and comb the armour into an earth terminal, electrically fine, though the purists may tut a bit. The equivalent for SY is common.

IF the armour is the main CPC, you need to ground it at both ends in a way that is good enough for the max fault current. If the CPC is elsewhere and the armour is just there to fire the RCD if a garden fork gets the cable, then earthing at supply end may well be enough. Indeed  if you are creating a TT island, it may be a deliberate choice not to continue the armour on arrival.
