FORUM MEMBER PAUL SKYRME NEEDS HELP.

Dear All

Our fellow forum member Paul Skyrme contracted prostate cancer which has spread to his bones and is at the moment it has paralysed him from the navel down. He is in hospital at the moment receiving treatment.

Due to his illness and the impact on his business due to coronavirus he has little or no income for some time.

Paul is a good mate to me and I am sure many other forum members. He is my man to go to on machine safety, product standards and CE marking and I know he has given freely his expert professional advice to many others here on this forum and other places. He has given out a lot of free professional advice on this forum over many years.

He has also given his time freely as an IET volunteer going to colleges to give talks and did an excellent webinar on harmonics which at the end he gave good advice to us blokes to get tested for prostate cancer.

Fellow forum member Martyn Dueden has set up a crowd funding site here https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/martynduerden to give Paul a helping hand. I am the scrutineer for this exercise and I promise you every penny raised will be sent to Paul's wife, I have her consent to do this appeal.

I know some of you have seen a drop in your income and leading up to Christmas there are many worthy charities are looking for donations but could I ask please to make a small donation to this good cause and help out a good friend.

Could you also use your social media contacts to spread the appeal to others in the electrical world.

Many thanks JP.

  • A big thankyou from myself and Martyn  for your kindness and generosity. We increased the target due to the initial response which was far better than we thought it would be given the time of year and a lot of people's income has been hit hard by Covid.

We hope to get the money to Paul's wife just before Christmas.

    Thanks again.

John, I don't for one moment want to be intrusive, but I would hope that he has been decompressed and is improving. Please let us know how Paul is getting on.

  • Good afternoon Chris

I spoke to Paul's wife this afternoon and she tells me Paul has had pains in his legs which is a good sign although bad in the usual way. The staff have had him sitting on the edge of his bed which is a big step forward.

What I did not know is they tested him for Covid and his was positive but no signs of symptoms so was on a Covid ward. As the result of that positive test his wife and family were tested and they were also positive but only one member had symptoms.

  • What a nightmare - Covid as well!

FWIW, I went to hospital today for a blood test. I didn't have to touch anything and the dampness of the chair showed that it had been cleaned since the last patient. All very sound, but a burden on the staff nonetheless.

I trust that Paul will be standing up soon. It doesn't sound like much, but it is the next stage.
  • I had a message from Paul's wife today asking me to say thank you to everyone on this  forum.

So a big thank you to you all!
