Glass Ceramic Hob.

So there I was checking R.C.D.s in holiday chalets. It was the last chalet. The blinds were drawn, the power was off and I went to the meter cupboard which is situated above the kitchen work surface, in a cupboard,  to gain access to the R.C.D. Then it happened. Somebody had left an aluminium torch, stood on end, in the cupboard. A booby trap. I knocked it, it toppled and fell onto the glass ceramic Smeg hob and broke the glass. Long story short.. I got a new hob and went to fit it. Unfortunately, against the maker's instructions, some fool had set the old hob on a bed of silicone. It was glued to the work surface, which meant that I had to break even more glass to remove it.

But this did allow me to see inside. They are not worth the money. A few spiral heating elements under a dark glass top and some fancy control circuitry.

And the are easily broken.

Z,

  • Zoomy, I feel for you - not much profit in that job. ?
  • I feel for you as well. I am sure we have all been there. What makes it worse is having to overcome a bodge.
  • Thanks all. What was a good thing though, was that I initially ordered a new hob on Fleabay which had minor surface defects. When it arrived it was smashed to bits by the sound of it when I moved the box. I did not open the box but contacted the seller asking for a refund. He came up on Sunday with his lovely wife all the way from Greenhithe, Kent  to Norfolk and brought with him a brand new perfect hob. He took away the broken one. His carrier was Hermes. Beware of these boxes, they have a hidden window in the centre of the box behind the outer cardboard, where there is no polystyrene. It houses the flex and instruction book. Step on that or place another box on that spot and the glass can be broken. The glass is like seaside rock.......hard but very brittle.

  • "His carrier was Hermes "

Well you are off to a bad start then Zoom lad.

Terrible carrier, throw parcels over back yard gates - insecure back yard and gate not locked. They do not care.

PS when I say "Thrown" I might mean dropped, but over a 6 foot gate it may have well been thrown.

It`s happend a few times to meand many times to others I`m told . Absolute disgrace . I wonder if they live in the underworld?
