Anyone can create and energise new circuits back to the consumer unit legally. However, to satisfy building control requirements they need to notify the council, and scheme members can do this very cheaply on a no inspection basis via their membership. Those of us who are independant of the system are supposed to notify building control direct, and they may want to send an inspector or not, depending what qualifications you have and what sort of day the chap at the other end is having.
However, in the earlier version of Approved Doc P it was made very clear that Adding socket-outlets and fused spurs to an existing ring or radial circuit Was not notifiable.
Given that the subsequent versions are described as a relaxation, it is clear that while BS7671 may consider a fuse as always starting a new circuit, for fused spurs from existing radials and rings, the authors of the building regs do not.
Mike.
Hello Mike,
Ahhhh, I love 'ambiguity!!'
