Building Regulations Compliance Certificate

I had a new consumer unit installed approx. 8 months ago, but I have not received anything from building control
I was issued a niceic new installation certificate, but not a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate?

You will not get anything from building control. The process is for the NICEIC to be notified by their contractor and then the NICEIC send you a completion certificate and also notify your local building control. Sounds like the contractor has not sent a notification to the NICEIC.
  • Every Borough Council has a Planning Portal where you can search addresses for planning applications past and present. The same for Building Control; some councils have these on the same portal, combined, but others have the Building notices on a separate site. Find your property, it should list the "history". If there is nothing in the Building Control section, that is not the end of it, some are a bit slack and do not update. Go back to the Contractor and ask them if it was notified and when. A receipt is sent by default to the work address, if truly notified and there is the option for a digital one to be sent to an email address. Maybe it was notified to the wrong address or lost in the post.

If they are genuinely NIC registered and the work that was done is notifiable work, the NICEIC will sort it out if it has not been notified.

  • If you used email to correspond with the electrician the Building Control Notification may have been emailed to you as a pdf.
