Main Equipotential Bonding.

I went to give an estimate today for a shower install. Only the wife was at home with a very young baby. A lovely homely sight to see the baby  in a handing swinging crib. This baby is probably the youngest person in the village. Anyway I was just checking the main bonding and the mother asked me about the earthing. I explained as simply and concisely as possible about the function of bonding cables and the need to keep all conductive parts at the same Voltage to limit shock risk. She then said, "so it is to equalise the Voltage". Yes I though, you have it there, you do understand. That was a magic moment.

  • Well, aren't you the silver tongued devil Zoom! Those ladies of Norfolk don't know how lucky they are! I can almost hear your chat up lines " hey, good looking, wanna come back to my place and peruse my back issues of BS7671?"

At the risk of sounding pedantic, I think you may find that babies are often, if not always, the youngest members of any village.

Being an honest and honourable person I do not chat up married women Grumpy.   If I am in a house with a lady customer or potential customer, I use the professional approach, especially if the lady is married. You can not  mix business and pleasure. I know all about babies as I was one once. I don't remember much of those days as I was very young when I was born.

Lone women can be very nervous when tradesmen visit their homes, and it is important to be totally professional and businesslike. I treat all customers with respect and never allow them to be ill at ease.

I notice in the press today that schools are to be asked to teach respect for women. Ek, I didn't know that the subject had been dropped.

Manners and respect go a long way.

Thazawlrite Grumpy, women don't look at me any more anyway for many reasons. They reckon that my collection of old wiring books is just too tatty. I've lost my regs' appeal.

  • You need a new Uniform Z, that's the problem, smart cap with a badge, shiny boots, fancy white belt, lots of medals and shiny buttons. An easy fix really!
