Wireless Smoke Alarms for Holiday Let Cottage.

Can wireless interconnecting smoke alarms be used in a rental holiday cottage? Sparkingchip suggests a LD2 category of use. The cottage will be let out to people for short term holidays. The main house has a small kitchen and dining room, an annexe has two bedrooms, a corridor and a lounge. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a bathrooms. The house is brick built and is about 100 years old.

Can the wireless type of interconnecting smoke alarms comply and keep the fire officer happy?

P.S. I intend to use mains powered smoke alarms with battery backup.

  • In fact you can mix and match, I have run hardwired interconnections until the route got too difficult them swapped to wireless for the last leg.

Aico recommend all wireless, but it’s a bit pricey, you can run a lot of cables for £200-300, particularly upstairs if you can run them through the loft.
