So if I'm reading this correctly Lisa, the instigator (OP) of the topic has the ability to delete not only their own posts but everyone else's who posted?

Yes that is correct. If the OP deletes a topic that they started then the whole thread of discussion is removed as they 'own' that topic as the author. As a contributor to the topic you can delete your own replies but if the OP chooses to delete their topic as a whole then the whole thread goes.
