UPDATED SPECIFICATION FOR DOMESTIC INPECTION AND TESTING

I have recently updated my specification for domestic inspection and testing.

The specification is designed for bot clients and inspectors. Clients can use to specify what they want and expect inspectors to do when tendering for work. It is also intended for contractors to specify what they are going to do to demonstrate they are professional, protect them against any future allegation as to what they have and have not done, give some protection against the 15 minute drive by contractors who tender cheaper quotes than the decent contractor.

I agree with your sentiments in publishing a specification for Electrical Inspection and Testing but I am disallusioned with the market place. The domestic scene appears to be a nogo, since the cheapest is sought and My Builder seems to fill the bill for most plebs; even without a registration body or 2391. There is maybe a market in the commercial scene for the professional but is it worth the effort?. I think that the registration bodies are to blame!

  • John,

I've sent it twice, the first time was bounced back despite it being a reply to email.  Sent again last night so if you don't get it please say so.  I did forget to say that if you update your specification again I'd appreciate a copy.

    Regards,

    Paul

Came across this spec rom a local company.
  • Oh dear. A percentage of circuits? What percentage ? Why not all the circuits as you would not PA test a percentage of appliances and pronounce all the others to be OK would you?  No separate list of inspections to be carried out an no list of tests that will be undertaken. Not exactly a comprehensive specification for the work that will be undertaken. Happy to send Stortford Electrical Services a copy of my specification if they want it!
