UPDATED SPECIFICATION FOR DOMESTIC INPECTION AND TESTING

I have recently updated my specification for domestic inspection and testing.

The specification is designed for bot clients and inspectors. Clients can use to specify what they want and expect inspectors to do when tendering for work. It is also intended for contractors to specify what they are going to do to demonstrate they are professional, protect them against any future allegation as to what they have and have not done, give some protection against the 15 minute drive by contractors who tender cheaper quotes than the decent contractor.

If you want a free PDF copy email me on info(the symbol for at)astutetechnicalservices.co.uk
  • I have been getting quite a few request for the specification.

One person spotted a silly error in the chart for frequency of inspections, of course dwelling do not have communal laundries only building do! I have now corrected this and have updated the document.

  • I have updated the specification again today to include some really good suggestions received from people who I have sent it to as the result of this forum post.

I've just checked the email address and sent it again.  If not received then could it be in a spam folder?

    Paul

  • I like spam. Spam in white bread with Branston pickle. Banned here at JP HQ by the senior management.

Paul I received your email and have sent the specification. Let me know if you have received it.

Happy to send it out to anyone who wants it?

  • I have had a few enquiries and suggestions suggesting individuals would like to do more tests. The specification is a MINIMUM standard for inspecting and testing. Just like BS 7671 is a minimum standard for electrical installations,  a floor not a ceiling! If the inspector wants to do more and the client is willing to pay that is fine with me. The extent and limitations have to be agreed with the client before the inspection starts. The specification can be sent to the client in advance by the inspector for their agreement which will fulfill this requirement.

  • John,

I received your specification by email thanks.  It's very good and the sort of thing I've written myself.  I made a few minor comments in an email reply and wonder whether you received them.  I also asked if you would object to me forwarding your specification on to work colleagues as an example of how such work should be specified.

I note that you've made another email thread on this specification four days ago.  Is it a later version to this one under discussion here?

    Many thanks,

    Paul
