Off Peak Board and Tails.

Mornin' All on this windy and chilly morn,


I recently came across two consumer units, twins, except that one was on peak (24 hour) the other off peak feeding storage radiators.


The meter box was outside at waist  height. The consumer units at higher level inside the house.


In the house was a D.P. Henley block. It had three Lines and three neutrals. The feed Line ran from the meter position to the Henley block. A second Line ran to the on peak  consumer unit. The third Line ran back down to the off peak Teleswitch. A final line ran up from the Teleswitch to the off peak consumer unit.


Why this arrangement? Why not just a single Line from the meter position to the of peak consumer unit?

    Are you advocatring that the split should be done at the meter posiiton?  The feed to the off-peak board has to be via the teleswitch, so arguably the Henley block could have been placed at the meter posiition with feed from meter to Henley block - 2 x lines 'out' of Henly block - one to 'peak' (24hr) board and the other to the teleswitch and then to the off-peak (time limited) board.


    Electrically identical arrangement, just the physical location of the Henly block that is different.


    I have known some RECs get very funny about what goes on 'their' bit of wood and a very picky one may argue that the Henly block is 'Consumer's equipment' so perhaps that's the reason for the physical arrangement?
