Bonding to lightning system

Working to IS 10101:2020 in regulation 411.3.1.2 there is no requirement to effect a main bond to the LPS, unlike the same regulation in BS7671 2018. I have no access to HD 60364 but obviously one of the documents is at odds with the the latter.

Might it be that IS10101 simply defers to BSEN62305 without even a mention?

Existing Church installation. The LPS contractor has not yet been appointed but spark is on site and will obviously need instruction.

  • Advice given to me in a previous discussion was don’t install a main bond to the LPS without a written instruction from the lighting protection system designer, you also need to ask for their guidance before specifying surge protection for the installation.

  • Yes, decision and requirements for the bond is in BS EN 62305. My understanding is that in most cases a bond will be recommended.

And because the LPS is present, it triggers SPD requirements over and above the basic requirements in the electrical installation standard (IS10101 or BS 7671) in any case.
