The Graphs in Fig 3A4-6. What does the vertical part of the characteristic mean?

There is a problem with these graphs. What is it and how should it be corrected?

    Your reference to the old post Andy is the same answer from OMS as I have been giving, with slightly differing minor details. You should note that this is not a graph but an area plot, conceptually very different.
