The constant force springs keep the armour circumferentially together and unstressed. But you could cut the armour long and comb it into a connector.

One day all wholesalers will hopefully sell the springs on their own.

I'd like to see that made off in a trench, not a table top where you can rotate the demonstration ends to suit, yet alone trying to maintain a reasonable peripheral thickness of resin.............. Oh. in the rain, mud, cold, dark as well...........

In my experience, the job is much more difficult if one tries to do much with the armour, it is very stiff (particularly in larger cables) and there is a lot of cross-section to join which is difficult. If the joining is just the cores it is not bad, and can be quite compact. The link braid and springs seem to work, and more importantly stay working when encapsulated. I don't think I have ever had trouble getting the resin in, if you do just work a bit more slowly, the air bubbles do take time to come up and it is important that they all have.
