EICR - alternate sources of power... ?

I am doing an EICR in a couple of weeks at a house that has solar panels and a battery storage system.


I am presuming the following will need testing/checking:

Supply up to the solar panel inverter.

Supply up to the battery storage (if different).

Presence of labelling for alternate supply.

Solar array and battery isolation switches functional test.


Is there anything else that should be in the remit of an EICR for this situation?

    I suppose strictly speaking you should be comparing what's there with the requirements of sections 551 and 712. The details will be different depending on whether the battery system is capable of supplying the installation alone when the grid fails (island mode) or if it's solely used in grid-connected mode (I'm presuming that battery system has its own independent a.c. connection rather than being part of the PV's d.c. side). I'd especially look for proper overload protection where conductors could be fed from two or more sources at the same time and ADS/Additional protection not being compromised by the supply being kept on by local generators after the grid-side protective device has tripped.


    I guess you should be looking at what's between the PV inverter and panels too - as the d.c. fixed wiring comes under BS 7671 - unless of course you've agreed with the client to exclude that.
