Caravan Hook-Up Point Earthing.

Greetings,

I was out and about today at a large sports ground field that has 5 caravan hook up points, two pairs and a single all separated by many hundreds of metres.

I had to test them as the new season will start soon. The sports field is very large and has a few flood lights situated around it fixed to high metal lighting columns.

I came to the first twin 16 Amp caravan hook-up point. It had a single R.C.D. and two blue sockets in an all insulated enclosure cable tied to a lighting column.

I could not confirm the earthing arrangement as I had no access to the main club house meter position.

So I carried out a loop test at the sockets and had a result of 1.41 Ohms, far too low to be a TT earthed socket.

What then was my concern?

  • If you suspect not TT, possibly Regulation 525.202 volt-drop before we go anywhere else ... but if the lighting columns are not on the same earthing system Regulation 411.3.1.1
