S.W.A. Armour Earthing.

Which regulations(s) require the steel wire armouring of a S.W.A. cable to be earthed if it is NOT used as a circuit protective conductor?

Case 1. Cable buried underground.

Case 2. Cable NOT buried underground.

  • It could be argued that the special case alluded to in 522.8.10 implies that for other situations earthing the wire armour may not be necessary.

I think Zoomup has pointed up an anomaly in 7671 in that there is no explicit requirement other than the above to earth the armour even though two of our stalwarts believe it to be a matter bordering on the negligent.

It is likely that all of us would would earth the armour as if second nature but Z has quite rightly pointed to the absence of corroboration in our national standard when someone has omitted to do so.
