Never mind the EVCPs, what about the boilers.

Apparently gas boilers should be banned from 2025.

At the moment, well under 10% of our energy is supplied by electricity: it is mostly gas. Use of an electric vehicle could double our leccy consumption, which would be bad enough; but (a) trebling the cost of our energy would be painful, and (b) how would the network and generation cope?
  • all modern (post 2000) gas boilers will run with up to 20% H2 in the methane, with no changes and have to demonstrate that as part of the type approval  process.

However, that is only a 20% reduction in carbon combustion, and even to do that would require a new process to make hydrogen at scale. Right now it is mostly made from decomposing  natural gas, and that is clearly a non-starter in terms of reducing gas consumption!! (as  are electric boilers if the electricity is derived by gas fired turbines...) You could think that the plan does not join up round the back. I could not possibly comment.
