Why do we speak of AC Voltages instead of just AV (Alternating Voltages) ?

Cos we think of the two popular current types, direct and alternating: D.C. and A.C. As the current is driven by the "Voltage,"  we consider the driving D.C. or A.C. Voltage involved. Years ago the "Voltage" was referred to as electrical "pressure".

    Z.
